As of today, I am collaborating with our "leader", Chelsey, to determine how to connect our blogs into the periscope. We have the set up in gear with ideas of the topics of the tabs above the page. Our next step is to write the welcome for the Home page, so visitors will get the whole gist of our idea. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">We also determined that this College Periscope is going beyond the high school curriculum. We plan to take this to the next level and be able to develop the blog into a legitimate place to get information from actual college students. This will be not exactly a moral support site or even Facebook. It will just be a place to find the facts out from incoming freshman going through the whole process.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">At this point, I'm guessing this will look like a group effort kind of project because we're slowly but surely getting all the facts covered. We'll be able to present it, no doubt. The fact of the matter is that it's not going to be a presentation of the end of a project. This is just the beginning of the journey (cliche, much?) and we're just getting started on the ins and outs of this endeavor.</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-33339548785765709832012-05-22T17:27:00.000-07:002012-05-22T17:27:05.782-07:00Blog in Progress.<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">At the moment, my college blog has been created and designed. From here on out, I need to kick it up a notch and add all the necessary info that will complete the idea of all the pages. There is a welcome post, but it's time to get in the groove and put up the real content people need. Since I plan to continue this blog past high school, more stuff will be frequently added. Two weeks will be enough time to get the majority of the basics down and to weigh in on the opinions of other soon-to-be Bruins. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I will add as a side note that this project is something I'm very dedicated to and plan to commit full on to. I think it's so important for other prospective students to see all the college opportunities they have and not just focus on the obvious options. This blog will be a good, personal insight into what Belmont is all about and I'm so happy to be able to provide a legitimate source that can be hands on and worthwhile.</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-85091251250189345392012-05-16T20:39:00.000-07:002012-05-17T20:39:40.626-07:00The Game Plan.<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">For the next few days that we have left in this course, I will be dedicating my time to a college FYI blog. Now what does this entail exactly? Well, I have it set up so that anyone has access to discover a bit more about the university in which I will be attending next year. It has different tabs/pages dedicated to specific subject areas about the college (i.e. academics, majors, living in Nashville, etc). I also have one tab that will be my journey of discovering the college, why I chose it and random opinions from other "baby Bruins". </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">One of my goals for this blog is to add as much info as possible, so kids (and any other visitors for that matter) know a bit more about the small college from the eyes of an actual student. It gives another insight on what the school is really about that isn't influenced by anyone but myself. I plan to continue this here and there during my first year as a freshman in which I will blog occasionally to update the viewers on the usual events that occur while attending Belmont.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">In order to get all the information I need, I'll refer to the other outlets that have facts about the college. I'll be using the official college site, along with other materials they have sent me through the process of my college application and acceptances. I have plenty of resources to cover the majority of topics, so I assume I'll have no real problems with informing the public on what I know about the university.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Like previously stated, I plan to start as we speak and continue throughout my first year at college. Although I understand I may get busy with my real classes and busy schedule, I want to try to make this blog a priority so I don't completely abandon the idea and leave people hanging. I believe (or would like to believe) that someone may benefit from this resource, so I'd like to make it a valid place to go for info.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">By the time I have finished all the ins and outs of this project, I plan to present it just like any other website. I would explain how the layout of the site is and how to use it for the full extent. Even when I continue it into my freshman year, if any visitor were to have a question about the info on the blog, I would be happy to respond and answer anything. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I'm hoping this blog not only benefits incoming seniors of high school, but the general public as well. It's always great to have more sources for colleges and have all the doors open for those kinds of opportunities.</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-28923138661321757322012-05-10T19:39:00.002-07:002012-05-10T19:39:59.393-07:00Charity Matters.<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Hey y'all! Normally, I wouldn't post something like this to a curriculum blog. But because this is an important cause to me, it's worth it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So, a few months ago, I went to visit my best friend in Charlottesville, Virginia. It was more to reunite and visit colleges, but in the end, it was way more than that. One night, we volunteered to help serve a homecooked meal for a group of homeless women through an organization called PACEM. Long story short: it was one of the most humbling and greatest volunteering services I've ever been a part of.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Right now, they are in the running to receive a grant from Statefarm Insurance for $25,000. This is where you come in. I would greatly appreciate anyone to take a couple minutes out of their busy schedules to vote for PACEM (in the state of Virginia). If PACEM stays in the top 40 organizations, they will receive the money, which will do SO much for the homeless community in Charlottesville. Here is the site in which you can cast your votes:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<a href="http://www.facebook.com/statefarm/app_376288832400015">http://www.facebook.com/statefarm/app_376288832400015</a>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So, if you could please just check it out and cast a vote or two, I would be forever thankful and grateful. PACEM is an amazing organization and I know they would appreciate everything you could do to help!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Thanks again!</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-55908516721990868752012-05-02T20:38:00.001-07:002012-05-02T20:38:20.678-07:00The Practice Continues...<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">With the surprise reminder of how important AP literary terms are ("pop quizzes" are SO not my thing), I am taking a step away from the AP resources and moving full force in preparation for the lit terms test on Friday. It may not seem like this will contribute to the long run goal of the AP test, but in all actuality, it will help me in greater lengths. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Knowing the meanings of words such as metaphor or paradox at the snap of my fingers will allow my multiple choice question pace to increase. I'll be able to recognize the different terms in certain passages easily and it will let me finish the reading and answering quicker than ever before. Even the simplest of words (hello simile and plot!) will contribute to this plan in the biggest ways possible.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">So even though I may be just studying literary devices/terms, these words will go a long way on the AP exam. And it does kill two birds with one stone, I may add!</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-14065359339205074622012-04-30T15:26:00.001-07:002012-04-30T15:26:49.074-07:00Making Progress...<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Today, I looked at the practice test with answers. This resource is perfect for me because I'm the kind of learner who understand when I can see the answer before the question. I'm better at back tracking than just flat out answering questions. After going through all the prompts and questions, I realize now that I need to work on pacing myself. Like anyone, I get tired of reading given prompts over and over again. In order to keep my endurance up for the whole test, I have to just keep a moderate pace so that I can finish the test with time and not wear out in the end.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I also need to study the literary terms that I don't know. Although most of them have become second nature, some are still a bit foggy in my mind. I need to clarify some of them so if asked a question specifically relating to the terms, I can answer without hesitation. With the practice we're doing every day, I feel confident that my score will reflect the progress I'm making in my study time.</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-38142972539955086312012-04-29T21:14:00.001-07:002012-04-29T21:14:14.261-07:00A Reflection on Unstructured Learning.<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

I liked it. Now all I had to come </span><span style="background-color: #fff9ee; line-height: 21px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">u</span><span style="background-color: #fff9ee; line-height: 21px; text-align: -webkit-auto;">p with was the costume.</span></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The text from <i>The Watchmen</i> by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons provides so many different outlooks on how to accomplish the impossible and unimaginable. When the author(s) talked about how "three months of self-doubt and self-ridicule" turned into something so worthwhile, it makes the hardest of obstacles and the worst of trying times seem manageable. The theme being put across in this text is that even when the going gets rough, just stay strong and try and try again. Sometimes, the hardest assignments can kill you but as we all know, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger and makes you a fighter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The author(s) seem to encounter: creative blocks, doubt, loss of self-esteem, low confidence levels. That whole journey makes us strive to work harder every day to accomplish what seems to be the most frustrating or grueling tasks we could ever imagine. After all, we're only human and we have to fight off what we're feeling sometimes to reach the top of the mountain we need to get to. No matter if the seas get rough and something as simple as a name can drag you down, once completed, you realize it's completely worth all the stress, worry and work that was put into it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Another small theme is the idea that the slightest moments can be the biggest inspirations in the end. Whether it be a personal nickname or something you see on the street, inspiration is all around. We have to be open to anything in times of need for it and we have to look for inspiration with eyes wide open at all times. Inspiration is always necessary in the life of a creator---which we all are creators somehow and someway. The theme of being on the hunt for inspiration does not only apply to "Nite Owl" but also in our every day lives to keep it fresh and original every day.</span></div>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-86961043618609028212012-04-29T16:17:00.001-07:002012-04-29T16:17:40.333-07:00AP Progress In Session.<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">For this weekend's venture in the AP English literature study session, I decided to look at the analyzing essay prompt download. I used this resource as a way to understand exactly what the readers and graders are looking for in this context.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The study guide laid out in great detail how to read and reread a prompt for the right information you need to receive a high grade in the essay portion of the test. It dissected the prompt and told me exactly what it means by "describing" the poem and how to analyze its literary techniques. The guide even gave definitions and examples of literary devices that a grader would be looking out for i.e. diction, rhythm, imagery, metaphor, etc.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The guide later went on the dissect the poem given into parts. It highlighted the rhythm in the stanzas and labeled the syllables in which the rhythm appeared. The next part consisted of giving a brief description of each line and the points to notice within them. The guide even provided two examples of good essays that would easily pass you during the test. I noticed that in the essays, the author is short and to the point. There are not many exaggerated statements and they say it like it is without any sugarcoating it. Even though they have multiple paragraphs, they are all pretty short and broad. They outline all the necessary details and give solid examples but there is no personal outlook in the essay.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">What I need to work on based on this study guide is cutting out all of my "Hallmark card" writing. I need to just get to the point fast and state exactly what they are looking for. Even though that kind of writing does not sound interesting, I guess the graders care more about what you know compared to what you think/your personal outlook. If I can get rid of the idea of persuading it in my own light, I think I can easily get an 8 or 9 on my essays.</span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-49845052799440560672012-04-26T14:44:00.002-07:002012-04-26T14:44:36.466-07:00So It Begins...<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">AP studying has now commenced. I began my plan by looking through the green student booklets. I read every prompt in the packets once over. From there, I looked at what notes the student made: some underlined certain details, others wrote down literary techniques to discuss, etc. With the hints from their notes, it guided me to see what they saw while addressing the prompt and helped me understand what direction they were aiming towards. After that, I reread the prompts and passages and tried to think about what points I would pick out. If necessary, I thought about what novel I would choose to reflect on for the prompt. </span><div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Even though I won't have the luxury of someone else's notes on my AP exam, I benefit from looking at what they have to point out because they see things I might not be able to identify on my own. With their small hint of guidance, it allows me to understand what language represents which literary technique or what ideas I should be on the look out for. I believe their notes hopefully have a good sense of what's going on because some of them mirrored what I was thinking as I read the poem/passage/excerpt. Next, I will embark on some multiple choice questions to get to know how the writers make the questions.</span></div>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-51699421258974907032012-04-24T13:42:00.000-07:002012-04-24T13:42:30.292-07:00Macbeth Prompts 123.<span style="background-color: #fff9ee; color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Top Three</u></b></span></span><br />

Obviously, it's crunch time. Now or never. The final countdown. That all means it's time to crack the books and study like no tomorrow. How do I plan to go about this?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">It's simple, really. With all of the new info on the course blog, I plan to use those resources to the best of my ability. Whether it be taking the time to do a full blown released test or just a few questions everyday, I will look at those materials in order to prepare for the set up of the test. I also will review the lit terms so if one of them comes up on the exam, it will be no sweat. Mental preparation is also key. For me, stress is not my deal. If I stress over this test, everything will be worthless. Instead, while I study for these next few days, I'll take it all in stride and not become overwhelmed at the amount of resources I have. Sure, there are tons of things it seems like I need to do. But in this case, I'm going to keep it simple and study until I feel comfortable. I'm pretty confident in the skills I have right now; I just want to brush the dust off the minor details just in case. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Yeah, the AP test is soon. And it's pretty intimidating in the big picture. But with the materials given and available, everything seems pretty do-able. I'm not worried about my performance at this point (that may change as the day gets closer) and after all the studying is set and done, I think I'll have a pretty good result. </span>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-63725147694441455302012-04-22T19:56:00.002-07:002012-04-22T19:56:59.194-07:00Soliloquy.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-we quickly know that Macbeth is king (Act III)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth <i>never </i>talks to the audience or lets them in on his thoughts like Hamlet does</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u>Macbeth</u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-one of Shakespeare's greatest characters</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-known for his complexities and demise</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-ambition is literally the death of him; Macbeth is known for how hungry he is for power</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-starts off as a "what can I do for the world" and turns into a "what can the world do for me" kind of guy</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-loses his way due to an increase in status/power</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-all of the consequences he endured were due to his own choices. No one really ever forced him to do anything and he wasn't being attacked by the Gods for any reason</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-audiences appeal to Macbeth because we're only human and certain things make our moral standards change; Macbeth finds power and becomes evil</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Lady Macbeth is the symbol for being pure; even though she is considered evil, she is <i>purely</i> evil and her thoughts are <i>purely </i>sinister</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-animus=masculine</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-anima=feminine</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-daggers terrify Macbeth the most throughout the play</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when Macbeth becomes king, it is his fear and ambition that combine to make him into the evil character he later becomes</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-the first murder he commits costs him everything that made him a good man before that</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Lady Macbeth may be sinful but she also has no will power when it comes to the little things</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when everything happens and all the results are basically her fault to begin with, she can't handle the confrontation of what she has done</span><br />

<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The witches basically influence his whole mindset after they let him know about the prediction they hold for him. <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">15. Describe the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Trace how it changes over the course of the play.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">At the beginning of the play, Lady Macbeth is one of the main influences of Macbeth's newfound ambition. She drives him to become mad with power and basically is in charge of the relationship. She demonstrates the masculinity between the two of them. As the story goes on, her role begins to fade while Macbeth starts to embody what she once was. He starts to take over and ultimately, wears the pants in the relationship as the man typically does for that day and age.</span></div>

<div style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">11. What is the significance of the line "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" (I, i, 10)?</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">There are many interpretations of this line because it is so significant in the play. On one hand, it could basically state that things aren't always what they seem. Irony plays a huge role in the outcome of life and foul things being fair or vice versa doesn't seem to hold true despite the reality of most consequences. It could also relate to the fact that the world of Macbeth is skewed and confused. There are so many characters that don't hold up to the name they are supposed to. For example, Lady Macbeth being the "man" of the relationship compared to Macbeth's role in their marriage. </span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">12. How does Macbeth function as a morality play?</span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Macbeth, the character, is the definition of the strength of morality. Even though he was a smart man to begin with, he let power get to his head. He lost his moral path when his greedy ambition caught up with him.</span></div>
<div style="color: #2a221a; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="background-color: white; color: #073763;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">13. How does Shakespeare use the technique of dramatic irony in Macbeth?</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Shakespeare uses dramatic irony as a source of comparison and contradictions. He takes the irony into a situation and makes it completely different than expected in reality. For example, when Duncan is being invited over to dinner as a cordial event but in return, is killed.</span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">14. How does Lady Macbeth overcome her husband's resistance to the idea of killing King Duncan?</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">She pretty much just makes him feel bad about not doing it with verbal abuse. She ends up just convincing him straight out by making him ponder on about what would really happen if he did kill Duncan.</span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="color: #222222; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">15. Contrast Macduff's response to the news of his wife's and children's deaths with Macbeth's response to being told Lady Macbeth is dead.</span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 21px; margin-bottom: 0.1pt; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 0.1pt;">
<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Macduff deeply cares about his family and becomes devastated at the news. He wants to cause harm to whoever set it up or committed such a horrible act of violence. Macbeth, on the other hand, is only upset to a point. He resumes to his old violent ways without really grasping the emotional effects of his wife's passing.</span></div>Kelly Brickeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06443036954549018818noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1581012206870997103.post-63232406159940059112012-04-15T22:28:00.001-07:002012-04-15T22:28:29.535-07:00Notes for Macbeth<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-play begins with a trip of witches preluding to the superstition and dark mood of the play</span><div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-next scene is in a military camp where King Duncan finds out that Macbeth and Banquo have defeated two armies: Ireland and Norway</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth comes across the witches; they tell him he will become thane of Cawdor and later on, King of Scotland</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Banquo will beget a line of kings without becoming king himself</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth and Banquo skeptical of witches until Macbeth hears the news of him becoming the thane</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-later on, Macbeth plans to have dinner with King Duncan at his castle</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth writes home to his wife, Lady Macbeth about all of his good fortune</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Lady Macbeth has an evil mind; she wants her husband to become king by killing Duncan</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-she is known for "wearing the pants" in the relationship</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-she is a symbol for masculinity between all of the other male characters for her violent thoughts</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-she persuades Macbeth to go for it and kill Duncan</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when Duncan falls asleep, Macbeth stabs him to death</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth also kills the chamberlains out of complete need for power</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Duncan's sons flee to England to make sure their father's murderer isn't out to get them as well</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth ends up killing Banquo in order to make sure he won't take over the throne</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-he also attempts to kill his son, Fleance, who escapes from the violent scene alive</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-at dinner, Macbeth talks to Banquo's ghost and the conversation weirds out the other Scottish guests; Lady Macbeth tries to distract them but with no luck</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth goes to talk to the witches who tell him three important facts:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-</span><span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">he must beware of Macduff, a Scottish man who opposed Macbeth</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-he is incapable of being harmed by any man born of woman</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-he will be safe until Birnam Wood comes to Dunsinane Castle.</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macbeth orders Macduff's family dead</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when Malcolm, son of Duncan, hears the news, he decides to take his army from England to beat Macbeth's Scottish army</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Lady Macbeth has killed herself randomly; Macbeth becomes pessismistic and deeply depressed</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-also finds out that Birnam Wood is coming to his castle</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-during the fight, Macbeth and Macduff encounter each other</span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Macduff ultimately beheads and kills Macbeth </span></span></div>
<div>
<span style="background-color: white; line-height: 18px; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Malcolm is declared King of Scotland due to the defeat of Macbeth, like the witches claimed</span></span></div>
<div>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-openly political play</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-based on King James I life (King of England and Scotland) and historical events that are similar to the ones that occurred in the Scottish kingdom</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-in order to create more suspense, MacBeth has random details that are different than the historical facts</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-the story is known for its violent ways and evil plot</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-MacBeth is based on the Holinstead's Chronicles</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-many don't know the true message of the story; it is either about despair or hope</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-MacBeth and Lady MacBeth both represent the definition of thinking and acting like a man</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Duncan kills Malcolm; MacBeth kills Duncan in order to take over the throne</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-killing kings was very relevant in that day and age; many rulers were murdered during their time</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-"double, double, toil and trouble" is a famous line from the play</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-MacBeth was a very smart and ambitious man</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-MacBeth=son of life</span>

<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><u><br /></u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><u>Plot</u></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Scout and Jem live with father, Atticus, in Maycomb</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-one summer, they meet Dill and plan to get Boo Radley out of his house</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-the Radleys have a reputation as being scary or crazy</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when Dill leaves, Scout goes to school and hates it</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Dill comes back next summer and they talk more about Boo Radley</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-on the last day of summer, they all sneak on to the Radley property in which Jem loses his pants there</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-random acts of kindness start appearing and they all assume it is Boo who is doing everything; Jem tells Atticus about his pants and the gifts in the trees</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-despite living in a racist community, Atticus defends a black man by the name of Tom who was accused of raping a white woman</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Jem and Scout get ridiculed about it; the black community takes them in to protect them from such harm</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Dill runs away from home right before the trial starts up</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-the trial begins; the town watches over the biggest controversy in the town</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-the accusers are Mayella and her father, Bob</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Atticus figures out that Mayella set up Tom and did have an affair with him; Bob covered it all up with rape to make sure Mayella didn't have guilt or shame upon her for committing such actions</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-despite all the evidence (including the fact that Bob beat Mayella about the incident), the white jury convicts Tom</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Tom tries to run away from prison but gets shot and dies</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-as a revenge plan for causing so much drama with his daughter, Bob harasses Jem and Scout one day walking home</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Boo Radley comes to save Jem and Scout by stabbing Bob </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when Boo brings injured Jem back to the house, the police cover up Boo's stabbing by claiming that Bob just tripped and fell on his own knife</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Scout sees Boo as a real human being and treats him with great respect and consideration for his actions</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><u>Key Factors</u></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Genre: drama; suspense</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Speaker: Scout in the first person</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Tone: critical and intense throughout the trial, kid oriented overall (due to a child narrating the story)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Theme: the difference between good and bad morals; the process of understanding right and wrong in a child's eyes</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Foreshadowing: the sad and dreary town represent Tom's tragic conviction and death; Bob's son rudeness in school represents his father's actions; the presents represent Boo's rescue and generosity</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Symbols: Mockingbirds represent a sin if killed by a human (symbol for Tom's death); the Radley house is the key point to a lot of the drama and tension throughout the story</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-internet=main resource for answers to our problems</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-video proved that the internet connects people everywhere</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-relates to our blogs by being able to provide a resource to anyone anywhere</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-good learning experience by answering questions</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-internet brings people together</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-learning doesn't just stop in the classroom; everything now is faster</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> <b>"We all have power to make something extraordinary."</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><br /></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-in classrooms, questions end once answered</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-panel: open minded, not judgemental, always leaves the question wide open</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-we need to be able to break habits of the embedded structure of school</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> ---> it's all a matter of free will and doing things our own way</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-people who won't break the mold must deal with doing things they don't want to do because...</span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> </span><b style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">THAT'S LIFE.</b><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-we can learn to love something if we try</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-play teaches us how to find new approaches and help find the aspects to inspire us</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-many are bound to curriculum=habitual</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-most people don't understand how to learn without structure (brainwashed by the system)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-small flame of passion = <b>success.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-epic fails happen to everyone, even the best </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-<b>ask questions, be involved, choose optimism.</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b><br /></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><u>#1</u></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Coming to terms with the last key points of the seminar, I was truly inspired by what was being said. When grades become irrelevant, we can't depend on what's acceptable by what the system has said. An "A" doesn't prove you're right or successful and an "F" doesn't say you did a bad job. After the point where grades don't matter, success will be focused on the epic fails that I learn from. Michael Jordan made this concept famous by saying, "</span><span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed." The concept of allowing myself free play will also affect me in being okay with letting go of the stress. In school, we are all so intently focused on what grade we get when it should be more go with the flow. When you have less worries later on in life, it lets you enjoy the simple things. That's what is truly important.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><u>#2</u></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The AP exam is the ultimate test. It doesn't just signify that you understand the material that's been crammed into your head for the last eight or so months, but it can also allow you to skip a couple college courses later on. The concepts introduced made me realize that it's okay to ask a million questions. Sometimes, curiosity needs to be implied without the care of ego weighing on your words. Mastering content is knowing it backwards and forwards with your hands tied; asking questions when in doubt despite what others may think is stupid (or not) is the biggest part of that process. When a test is of that importance, it's okay to "play" around with questions and answers.</span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><u>#3</u></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">The last three points made from this specific socratic seminar as well as the content we researched last night were huge on the inspiration meter: ask questions, be involved, choose optimism. In order to be wise, you must be one to question everything. You need to know that you may not like the answers you find and you must be able to ask things a hundred times over until you fully understand what you need to know. It's inspiring to see people that keep trying to find an answer because their determination is what sets them apart from the rest of the crowd. Getting involved is the second part of developing what your answer to life is. Hands on learning (like free play) can develop better skills for the future. Choosing optimism may not always be easy. In fact, it's the last thing I personally think towards because I don't want to be disappointed in the answer. But not getting what you want proves that it means so much more to keep hunting for what may be right or wrong. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is the only way to keep on going when the going gets rough.</span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>-www.droppingknowledge.org</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Every issue or problem is brought up with someone asking a question (Why..? How..? If..?)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Thousands of answers are given, but no one really knows where to start</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Only way to find real solutions is to stop all business and come together to solve the issues at hand</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-September 9, 2006-Berlin: Table of Free Voices took place</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Table of Free Voices: a panel of guests from all around the world answer 100 questions submitted by thousands of random people from all around the world </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-Each question is divided into 8 separate themes of global importance</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 1) reinventing economics</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 2) conscious recognition</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 3) politics of violence</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 4) understanding power</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 5) the human footprint</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 6) the new global frontier</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 7) innovation acceleration</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> 8) a perceiving eye</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-this panel provides universal answers by combining the access with modern technology</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-mission: gather multiple viewpoints and to celebrate cultural understanding and diversity</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-all answers are on the internet on a Copyleft, which means it is there for society's use</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-anyone can use and work with the answers from the website as a source of information</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>2. <u>Article</u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-childhood play is important to the development of emotional state, cognition skills, and social skills</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-"free play" is rambunctious and unorganized, but is also the most effective form of child learning</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-kids who do NOT have free play time may grow up to be more anxious or deadbeat</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">"free play" allows children to cope with stress and anxiety better later on in the future</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when games has a set of designated rules, kids can not be carefree in their imagination</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-"free play" opens up a child's mind to experiment with certain social situations and ideas from the imagination</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-kids with "free play" have a more creative perspective on problem solving</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-"free play" shows the kids what is acceptable and unacceptable in their surrounding environments</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-play promotes better emotional reactions and social learning</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-play makes kids anxiety levels decrease quicker than rule oriented games or specified activities</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-play encourages intelligence levels in language and overall learning</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-many people fear unsupervised play causes physical harm; without the experience of "free play", many kids don't develop good problem solving skills or emotional strength</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>3. <u>Poem</u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-learning in a set environment teaches skills</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-free play and games without rules don't have exact plans; the kid can develop more creative ideas and responses to certain situations</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-play gives a child a new perspective from what teaching or telling a child could</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><b>4. <u>Zen</u></b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-when asking questions, it strikes curiosity in the mind and brain</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-curiosity leads to different ideas and viewpoints to consider for the individual depending on their opinion and insight</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-asking questions can lead to multiple understandings, not just one right answer</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">-being curious can open up one's mind to other questions or information</span><br />

<pre style="background-color: white;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by suns of home.

And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.</span></pre>
